Androgens
Androgens are a group of hormones that are primarily associated with male characteristics, although they are also present in females at lower levels. The most well-known androgen is testosterone, which is primarily produced in the testes in males and in smaller amounts in the ovaries and adrenal glands in females. Androgens play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of male reproductive tissues, such as the testes and prostate, as well as the development of secondary sexual characteristics like facial hair, deepening of the voice, and muscle mass. In females, androgens contribute to various physiological processes, including the regulation of reproductive function and bone health. While androgens are important for normal bodily functions, imbalances or excessive levels can lead to various health issues, such as hormonal disorders and certain types of cancer.
